Care We Provide

Short, Medium and Long Term

Offering 24-hour care and support from a diverse, experienced staff team in a flexible manner, enables ROXY AVENUE to provide high quality care and support for residents on a short-, medium- and long-term basis. We provide a safe, supportive and rewarding environment for people with severe symptoms, complex needs and/or those have proved difficult to place.

Crisis and Emergency Respite

In crisis placement, it is likely that to undertake an assessment prior to placement is impractical. In genuine crisis situations an assessment will be made over the telephone and on arrival at the Home by one of our suitably qualified staff and detailed information taken from the referrer or other professionals.

Placing officers will be asked to complete a form at the time of requesting the placement. We try to be flexible and make the admission process as easy as we can. Our team can talk through the form and will complete this for referrers during the initial contact if required. ROXY AVENUE will request that supplementary documentation be faxed or emailed over, or the form can be issued for completion and faxing or emailing back. In any event, the processing of a simple form is to ensure that, even though a placement is one undertaken at speed, all key data required to effectively support the individual is obtained as succinctly as possible and in order to avoid any key information being forgotten or overlooked as can often happen in an emergency.

Example of crisis:We are known for our success with people whose care in other establishments has failed and therefore we receive emergency referrals for people who are in police custody following another placement breakdown. This can often happen outside of normal working hours, but this does not delay our admission process.

Example of emergency respite placement:When a family supports someone with mental health issues but themselves become unwell and require the service unplanned and at short notice.

Referrals

Initially, the referrals are usually received by telephone but can be by other methods. A member of our team will discuss the circumstances, risk profile, diagnosis and the current needs. After this, if it is looking like a placement may be appropriate, an assessment is arranged which is usually carried out at the individual’s current place of residence by our senior staff members of ROXY AVENUE. This includes discussions with staff at the individual’s current residence in order that informed decisions can be made using current risk assessment, care plans and other related documents around the care and support being provided.

If we are positive that we can meet the individual’s needs, a post assessment report is completed identifying their support needs. Along with the report, a fee breakdown is given to their care co-coordinator.

Once funding is agreed, they can move in as soon as a bed is available and, in the meantime, they are welcome to spend time at the Home to sample the atmosphere.

This procedure may differ for private funders and can be discussed on initial contact.

To make referral, please 0207 8709182 or email at referrals@roxyavenue.org and ask to speak with the Home Manager or senior staff member.

Recovery Model

For many people ‘recovery’ is about staying in control or regaining control of their life despite experiencing a mental health problem. This view if often referred to as the ‘recovery model’. We use various recovery/reablement tools to allow for flexibility and to tailor our support to our client group within our setting.

We believe that recovery is best seen as a personal journey, and this is central to everything we wish to achieve with our residents.

At ROXY AVENUE we endeavour to explore different ways for people to find their own pathway to recovery. This includes activities and therapies, work and educational opportunities, advocacy and social inclusion.

Rights and Responsibilities

We have developed, in consultation with residents, a set of RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES (R&Rs). These are issued to residents upon arrival at the Home and along with the Service Users’ Guide. In the form of a small and easy to read booklet. The document sets out the rights of the residents along with their responsibilities so everyone living and working at ROXY AVENUE is clear about the parameters of behaviours and actions and the consequences of these.

The R&Rs are periodically reviewed and can be downloaded from our website: www.roxyavenue.org

Our staff team is clear on the expectations of their work, performance and behaviour and in return what they can expect in return from us as their employer. This is laid out in staff handbooks, contracts and job descriptions.
